Ellen Degeneres in the Dog House

by Heather on October 16th, 2007

ellen degeneres portia de rossi

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi adopted a Brussels Griffon mix puppy named Iggy from the Mutts and Moms dog agency a few weeks ago. Apparently Iggy didn’t get along with their cats so they gave the dog away to Ellen’s hairstylist. However, Ellen neglected to notify the agency about the re-homing and upon finding out they confiscated the dog from its new home because the contract Ellen signed was violated.

I’m of two minds on this. On the one hand, anyone who has ever adopted from a shelter or agency knows how stringent they are about where these animals go. The two times we’ve adopted from a shelter we were living in an apartment and they actually called the management office to make sure pets were allowed, among other things. They don’t mess around because they don’t want the animals coming back to the shelter. Reading the fine print when something as important as a new family member is involved is usually a good idea.

Then again, the puppy had apparently already bonded with the hairdresser’s daughters and everyone was getting along well. The agency didn’t care and took the dog anyway and can’t be reached. Ellen has apologized and admitted that she didn’t read the paperwork and is pleading with the agency to give the dog back to the family. I’m leaning more toward this scenario because hello, for all intents and purposes it was now in a good home just the same. Give Ellen a slap on the wrist, research the new family and re-place the dog. However, according to the video at TMZ.com [pops], the shelter worker had it out for Ellen anyway.

my heart goes to ellen and iggy. iggy has feelings too that deserves a lot of respect. it’s like taking a child away from its family! and what’s wrong with a little communication and understanding between ellen and mutts & moms? i’m sure mutts & moms could bend some rules to fix things up.

This happens all the time with shelters and rescues. Apparently someone neglected the cat factor on this one.

How did the shelter even find out? Only because it’s ELLEN!

As long Iggy in good hand and have a good home, who cares?? Rules and regulation are dead, we are alive. But in other hand, since is the contract problem, just resettle it again and get the dog back.
