Libby the Poodle Predicts Death

First there was Oscar, the cat who predicted death at a nursing home. Then Scamp, who also predicted death at a nursing home. And now there’s Libby, a 14-year-old standard poodle therapy dog in Philadelphia who refuses to enter the room of someone who’s apparently going to die within 24 hours — and her record is 100%.
“The first few times, I really didn’t put it together,” said Marge Stiller, the poodle’s owner and trainer.
Stiller said when Libby won’t pass the threshold, it’s because “she has the ability to know — I don’t want to say predict — know when a person is going to be passing away within 24 hours.”
Creepy! I wonder how many more of these stories we’re going to hear now that people realize their nursing home mascot isn’t the only one with the knack for deathly predictions.
People are speculating it’s because dogs have such a higher sense of smell and can detect even the slightest changes in a person’s chemistry (but what about Oscar?). I read somewhere once that you can compare a dog’s sense of smell and a person’s sense of smell by saying that the person can walk into a room and know someone’s making soup, but a dog could walk in and tell you every last ingredient that went into the soup, just by smelling it (if dogs could tell you, that is, but you get the point).
