Not A Job I’d Want

Ever wonder how dog food is tested for taste without actually using dogs? This guys does.
Now, we’ve given our dogs grocery-store-shelf wet dog food a few times in the past as a treat and had to stop after a little while because the look of it grossed me out. I know dog food isn’t haute cuisine, but ick, it looked horrible.
As a dog food taste tester, however, Mr. Allison says:
“I have trained my palate to look for materials that we will not allow in the recipe, such as tripe - pet owners react badly to the smell of tripe.
“I’m looking for a patè texture, almost to the point where you could spread it on crusty bread.”
I have nothing against patè texture, but from his first paragraph I now know what was in the cheap wet food we used to give the dogs. I need to go heave now.

I…
Gah, that’s nasty. I mean. Okay, it’s nasty enough that I don’t feed my dog wet food at all, because if *I* wouldn’t want to eat it I don’t think he would either. And yeah, I don’t want dry dog food either, but hello. It doesn’t smell like… like…. gross dirty socks.
Man, no. There are other ways to earn a paycheck.
