Oscar the Cat Predicts Death
Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours.
His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means the patient has less than four hours to live.
Some people find the story a little creepy, but I think it’s extremely neat. One of my cats seems to know when one of us is sick, and will curl up next to us and purr if we’re laying down. While he’s usually affectionate anyway, he usually just does his own thing. It’s only when we’re not feeling well that he goes out of his way to comfort us.
