Pet of the Week: Sugar
This week’s Pet of the Week is Sugar!

Sugar is owned by Jolene and her family:
Pet’s Name: Sugar, Poocher, Pooper, Pooper-Scooper, Scoops, Pooch, Dumb Dog and “I don’t like you.”
Age: Two years [this month!] (November 12th.)
Breed: Boxer Mix. We’ve heard that she’s mixed with everything from Pitbull to English Bulldog to Pointer to Lab. She’s a mutty mutt, basically!
Her Favourite Food: Purina Adult Chow.
Favourite Treats: She loves the crusts off of Jessica’s cheese sandwiches. She gets these in the morning, when she goes into her kennel before I take Jessica to school. She LOVES it.
Favourite Toy: Rope toy, tennis balls and Jessica’s Stuffed animals (which almost got her given away at one point hee!)
We got Sugar for free on Craigslist shortly before they began cracking down on the free pets thing. Her previous owners were a married couple who were living with the husband’s parents and were getting ready to move into an apartment. They had to get rid of Sugar, another dog and a momma cat who had just had four kittens.
Personality: Sugar is a total Daddy’s Girl. She loves “The Girl” (Jessica) and tolerates me well enough during the day, but when Dad is home, she goes crazy and gets all excited running around the house. When she runs, she sort of tucks her butt under, as if it’s lit on fire. The first time I saw her do this, I yelled at Jessica because I thought that Jessica was tormenting her in some way because she looked so funny when she was running and Jessica was just cracking up.
She is a fantastic watchdog (saved us from a break-in back in August) and loves to go swimming. When she’s in the pool she will actually splash the water and then try to eat it. We almost found a new home for her over the Summer, as we felt she wasn’t getting the amount of attention she needed or deserved, but Jesse was way too heartbroken, so we made the changes that needed to happen in order to keep her around. (And good thing too, as that was shortly before our attempted break-in! She’s my best friend, now!) We’re really glad we kept her. She is definitely a huge part of our family. Even Cameron gives her some lovin’ and rubbin’ pretty constantly and our two younger cats cuddle up to her every chance they get. However, if our 12-year-old cat had anything to say about it, we would have gotten rid of her AGES ago.
She huffs and puffs when she’s bored, but is happy just to sleep the day away on her pillow on the floor at the end of the bed. She’s nosy and pushy and really very annoying at times (”I just don’t like you!”), but we love having her around and look forward to her having a long, healthy and happy life with us.
