Pet of the Week: Vira

This week’s Pet of the Week is Vira:

Liz writes:

My kitty, Vira, is a year and a half old. I got her from a family who were blessed with an overabundance of kittens. They had close to fifteen cats from several different litters all living in their garage because they had no room in the house! They needed to find homes for the cats, but other than me the only people who had come to claim any of the kittens were her neighbors.

She’s adorable and I love her, but I must admit that she’s a tad bit vengeful. If you were to upset her, she merely leaves in a huff only to come back minutes later, purring, to curl up in your lap. Once your guard is down, however, she slaps you in the face. Many have fallen victim to her sneaky ways, despite my warnings.

She loves raviolis. I call her a freak because of it. She will steal them off my plate if I don’t watch her closely.

She is the best alarm clock I’ve ever had, and the most annoying. She wakes me up every morning around 5 and 5:30 to go outside by clawing at the carpet by my bed. It wakes me up every time because she had clawed up the carpet in a secluded corner in the apartment I had lived in and I’m so paranoid that she’ll do it here.

And just a few weeks ago she had her first experience getting stuck in a tree. My parents plot has a small creek full of thick trees and underbrush and Vira just loves to stalking around there. But, that night she didn’t come home when it started getting dark. There are coyotes around where my parents live, and so I started freaking out. I knew there were none around the house itself (as a family of deer lazed in while were were out looking for Vira and went to bed down near the creek). Around nine o’clock, we heard some meowing off in the distance and went to investigate. I started searching around the house while my dad headed off toward the creek. When he found her, she was fifteen feet on a narrow branch. It had to have been the most cliche thing I had ever heard in my life! We got her down quickly and brought her inside for some much needed loving.

She’s a spoiled brat, but I love her.
